The decision came almost six months after the errors came into discussion and sparked criticism on social media networks.

Although different quarters pointed out various errors in both primary- and secondary-level textbooks, NCTB said it did not find any error in secondary-level textbooks.

The Directorate of Primary Education provided field-level education officers with a list of corrections to incorporate in the books.

“A major mistake was found in the poem. No other major mistakes have been found in the primary-level textbooks,” NCTB Chairman Professor Narayan Chandra Saha told bdnews24.com on Thursday.

The controversial pictures of a goat climbing a tree to eat mangoes and a girl wearing scarf will be modified in the next editions, he added.

One NCTB official, requesting anonymity, said a panel was formed to find out the mistakes after they surfaced on the social media.

“The list was made following recommendations of the panel which the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education took so long to approve,” he said.

The government has distributed over 362 million textbooks and education materials among the students this year.

Following the criticism on Facebook, both NCTB and the education ministry formed committees to identify those responsible for the errors.

NCTB sacked eight of its officials following the report of the committee.

Criticisms are loud in the air that government has bowed down to the demands of radical Islamist group Hifazat-e-Islam by omitting certain novels and poems from the text books.
