Former Jatiya Party (Ershad) legislator Abdul Kader Khan, who represented the same constituency, masterminded the killing with the help of seven accomplices, according to the chargesheet.

The other accused are Anwarul Islam Rana, Shahin Mia, Rashedul Islam alias Mehedi Hasan, Kader's chauffeur Abdul Hannan, Kader's personal assistant Shamsuzzoha Sarker, Awami League's Bamondanga Union unit's former office secretary Chandan Kumar Sarker and his brother-in-law Subol Chandra Roy.

Chandan Sarker is absconding while rest of the chargeheeted accused are in custody.

Investigative Officer Abu Haider Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman submitted the chargesheet in the Sundarganj district court on Sunday.

Liton was a lawmaker of the ruling Awami League at Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) constituency.

Gunmen stormed his residence at Sundarganj Upazila on Dec 31 last year and left him severely wounded with gunshots. He died later in the day at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

His sister Tahmida Bulbul started the murder case at Sundarganj Police Station accusing four to five unidentified people.

Kader, who was also a former MP from Sundarganj, was arrested in a Bogra clinic on Feb 21 this year. His wife owns the clinic.

He confessed to killing MP Liton under Section 164 after facing interrogation in remand for several rounds.

Sundarganj police Inspector Ashrafuzzaman said police were trying to bring back absconding Chandan to the country with the help of Interpol.

Kader made a plan to kill Liton last year following political rivalry. He hired killers for Tk 1 million. Three weapons were used in the killing, said the IO.
