Chapainawabganj terror den: 3 bodies 'too mangled' for identification

The bodies of three among the four militant suspects killed inside a hideout in Chapainawabganj were mangled beyond recognition.

The dead body of Rafikul Alam Abu, the only identified suspect, was however intact, police said on Friday. 

"The other three bodies are mangled so we couldn’t identify them. But we have taken samples to test DNA," said Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Wares Ali Miah.

Police after ending the two-day long Operation Eagle Hunt on Thursday evening, said the suspects died due to a blast caused by their own explosives.

On Friday, a bomb disposal team found a suicide vest and a firearm inside the house at Trimohani Village of Shibganj Upazila.

The four bodies were brought out around noon on Friday after police finished investigating the location, said ASP Wares.   

Abu's wife Sumaiya and one his two daughters were brought out of the hideout during the operation on Wednesday.

Police said his other child was with her grandparents during the SWAT raid. Sumaiya, who had received a bullet injury in her knee, was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital amid tight security measures.  

Abu, a 30-year-old spice seller by profession, lived with his wife and daughters in the house owned by one Jentu Biswas, an affluent 75-year-old resident of the area.

Locals said, Abu was excused from paying rent for the house he moved into three months ago.

His parents live in Chachra village, around half a kilometre from Trimohani.

His mother Fulsana Begum told reporters that Abu's daughters are 8 and 6 years old.

He studied at a local madrassa had been staying in his in-laws’ house at Abbas Bazar in the same Upazila since marrying Sumaiya nine years ago.
