Mohammad Nayan Ahmed also claimed that he managed to identify one ‘Mahbub’, a Sakura worker who was involved in the ‘killing’.

Police rescued critically wounded Jonny, 32, midnight on Sunday from in front of the restaurant in Shahabagh and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the doctor pronounced him dead.

Jonny’s wife Marjina Akter filed a case with Shahabagh Police Station accusing 22 people of the murder.

Following the incident, a total of 40 Sakura workers were taken to police station for primary interrogation; 21 of them shown arrested in the case.

They were produced before the court on Tuesday when police sought seven days of remand for the accused to be quizzed in custody.

Nineteen of the were released, according to the Police.

Jonny was a flower vendor in Shahabagh and vice-president of Ward-21 of Dhaka metropolitan unit of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, said his brother. He hailed from Rajanagar of Munshiganj. He was second among three brothers and five sisters in the family.

Nayan Ahmed told bdnews24.com that following the incident police have collected some video footage which might help to arrest the culprits.

“Part of the video shows that Jonny and two of his friends including Khalil are entering Sakura, but three minutes later they are running out of the bar.”

“The video also shows that a total of 30 to 40 people are seen chasing and beating them,” Nayan said.

‘Khalil’ and one of his relatives were still missing. Police believe that they can give a clear picture of that day’s event.

According to Nayan, when he came under attack, Jonny phoned his wife and mentioned Mahbub’s name as one of the attackers.

The officer in charge of Shahabagh Police Station Abul Hasan told bdnews24.com that the motive for the killing was not clear.
