A citizens' meeting to be attended by the minister, however, was cancelled on Sunday.

Nabinagar Police Station OC Imtiaz Ahmed was hit in the head by a brickbat pelted by the protesters during the clashes. He was treated at the state-run hospital in the district.

Brahmanbarhia Deputy Commissioner Rezwanur Rahman, District Council Chairman Shafiqul Alam, Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman, among other top officials of the district, were present when Minister Sayedul inaugurated the Livestock Development Centre's building at Bijoynagar Upazila in the afternoon.

DC Rezwanur said BGB, RAB, and APBn personnel were deployed along with additional police to keep the situation under control.

Section 144 of the CrPC restricting the people movement was slapped. The protesters, however, breached the ban to enforce their shutdown.

Bijoynagar Upazila Awami League called the shutdown in protest against Sayedul's rival local MP RAM Obaidul Muktadir not being invited to the programme.
