Cabinet mourns demise of music legend Lucky Akhand

Cabinet has expressed profound grief at the demise of music legend Lucky Akhand who was also a freedom fighter.

“Cabinet has expressed profound shock and grief at the demise of popular lyricist, composer, singer and Freedom Fighter Lucky Akhand,” Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said on Monday after the weekly cabinet meeting.

“The Cabinet conveys condolence to his family,” he said.

Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste Akhand died on Friday after a long battle with lung cancer.

Shafiul praised Akhand for actively taking part in the 1971 Liberation War and joining Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra at the age of 15 only.

His compositions used to inspire the freedom fighters, he added.

Born on June 18, 1956, Akhand worked with the record label His Master's Voice (HMV) in his teens.

He has composed more than 1,500 songs, said the secretary adding that his death created a void in the music industry.
