Man trampled to death by wild elephants in Sherpur

Wild elephants have trampled to death a farmer in Sherpur and left his wife and son injured.

The incident has been reported early on Sunday from a village in Sreebordi Upazila, which shares the border with Indian state of Meghalaya.

Police said that the victim has been identified as 40-year-old Ribon Marak, who belongs to the indigenous Garo community.

Quoting locals, Sreebordi police OC S Alam said that a herd of elephants rampaged through Marak's farm early on Sunday.

"Ribon (Marak) was severely injured when he along with the locals tried to chase away the animals. He died while being taken to the state-run hospital in Sherpur town," he told bdnews24.com.

Marak's wife Shoila Sangma and son Bijoy Sangam were also injured and received first aid.
