Signal No. 3 hoisted at ports due to bad weather, rain may continue

The Met Office has asked the authorities to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 in the maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra due to a trough of low which lies over West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh.

The Meteorological Department on Saturday said 'steep pressure gradient' persisted over the North Bay, which brought in rain accompanied with gusty wind across the county.

In a warning message, it said squally weather might affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.

The Met Office also said in the weather forecast that the moderate to heavy rains experienced in the capital and other parts of the country on Saturday may continue in next two days.

Meteorologist Hafizur Rahman told bdnews24.com that stormy wind may accompany the rains.  

In Dhaka, 23 millimetres of rain was recorded on Saturday.

The Met Office forecast rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Chittagong divisions and at many places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Barisal divisions with heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country.

Day and night temperature may remain unchanged.

On Saturday, the lowest temperature of 19.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Rangamati. Jessore recorded the highest temperature - 36.2 degrees Celsius.

The Met Office also said a trough of low lies over West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, extending its trough to North Bay. Under its influence steep pressure gradient persists over North Bay.
