Sheikh Hasina unveils plans for Bangladesh's new chancery in Thimphu

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has unveiled the floor plan for a new chancery building of the Bangladesh embassy in Bhutan.

The plans for the embassy’s main office were revealed on the second day of the prime minister’s three-day visit to Bhutan, in the presence of the king of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, at the Bhutanese capital of Thimphu.

Prior to the unveiling, a transfer agreement was signed by Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and Bhutan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Damcho Dorji.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Bhutanese counterpart, Tshering Tobgay, were also present during the signing.

After the unveiling, the national flag of Bangladesh was raised on the spot and the national anthem was played.

Afterwards, Prime Minsister Sheikh Hasina and King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck inspected the site.

The Bangladesh prime minister arrived in Bhutan on Tuesday for her three-day trip. Six agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) were signed on the first day of the trip.

On Wednesday the prime minister inaugurated the ‘International Conference on Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders’ in Thimphu.

Organised jointly by the Bangladesh and Bhutan health ministries, with technical support from the Suchna Foundation, the Ability Bhutan Society and the World Health Organisation’s South East Asia Branch, the conference discussed the importance of government support for those on the autism spectrum and the necessity of their acceptance, education and employment.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s daughter Saima Hossain Wazed, who was named a WHO Champion for Autism in the South-East Asia region, accompanied her on the visit.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and International Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Gowher Rizvi have also accompanied Hasina.
