Nine Tamil Nadu-bound Bangladesh nationals arrested in Tripura

Nine Bangladesh nationals including three women have been detained by the BSF from the outskirts of Agartala in Tripura.

Based on specific information, the BSF of Gakulnagar laid a trap at Rastarmura in the NH44 and detained them while they were moving in a Bolero Pickup van towards Agartala Rail Station.

During interrogation, it was revealed that they all are from an area near capital Dhaka and had crossed the border illegally through the unfenced area in Sonamura along with their guide Md Nayan.

They were supposed to move to the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu with an assurance of getting work there as handloom weavers.

Nayan told the BSF that he is the son of late Rustam Mandal of Gazipur district but for the last two years, he has been working as a weaver in one Royal Galaxy Garment at Tripur in Tamil Nadu and was taking all of them to settle in Tamil Nadu as cheap labour.

An Indian voter card, bank a passbook, and an AADHAR card were found in Nayan’s possession while Rs 36,480, Tk 1500, five mobile phones with Bangladeshi SIM cards and personal belongings were seized from them.

A FIR has been lodged with the Bishalghar police and the group has been handed over to the police.

Tripura has 857 km border with Bangladesh, and more than 90 percent of the border is fenced.
