The education ministry published a gazette recognising Dawrah-e-Hadith as equivalent to post-graduate degree last Thursday, two days after the prime minister's announcement on the matter.

The government had also formed the committee headed by Qawmi Madrasa Board Chairman Shah Ahmed Shafi for the standardisation of the certificate.

As many as 30 members of the 32-strong Dawrah-e-Hadith Certificate Standardisation Committee took part in the meeting chaired by Shafi, who runs the Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasa in Chittagong's Hathazari.

Hifazat-e Islam chief Shafi's Press Secretary Munir Ahmed said in a statement that the committee thanked the prime minister and Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid for the recognition of the top Qawmi degree as equivalent to Masters (Islamic Studies and Arabic) degree.

The committee decided to hold the examination under six Qawmi madrasa boards with same question papers.

The statement said the examinations and the certification will be conducted under an authority which will be called Al-Haiyatul Uliya Lil Jamiatil Qawmia Bangladesh.

Gawhardanga Madrasa's Maulana Shasul Haque has been appointed examination controller.

The examination will end May 25.

The statement also said the committee decided not to take any financial help from the government.
