On Wednesday, the court of the Third Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal convicted Saiduzzaman Bachchu over the 2012 incident at the capital's Hatirpul.

The court also slapped a Tk 100,000 fine on the convict.

Bachchu used to run a travel agency. His offices were at the shopping mall where the body was found.

According to the case documents, the convict raped and murdered 15-year-old Rokhsana Rumi at his office on Jun 1, 2012. He then cut her body into pieces before dumping through the toilet and windows.

Police recovered the body pieces from the alley beside the shopping mall and the roof of a nearby building.

Charges were pressed on Bachhu the same year and the trial started May next year after the court indicted him.

The police report said that Bachchu and Rumi were known to each other from the native Faridpur. Rumi went to the travel agency office that day after Bachchu asked her to come over phone.

The convict has been absconding after securing bail from the High Court in October last year.
