Ishwar Chandra Roy, 20, was one of the two workers digging the ground to set up a septic tank for a house at Sabujparha Mahalla in Debiganj, said Police Inspector Aminul Islam.

The ground caved in trapping both workers underneath around 4pmWednesday.

“Rubel was pulled out alive by locals. But Ishwar Chandra remained trapped. He was rescued later by Fire Service men,” said OC Aminul.

The rescuers built a wooden frame to stop the sandy soil from falling on him and rescued him around Wednesday midnight.

Ishwar Chandra, from Nilphamari’s Domur Upazila, has been admitted to Debiganj Upazila Health Complex.
