As per the summons issued on Wednesday, Jatiya Party MP Salim and Opu Prodhan will have to appear before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Dhaka on May 14.

The court's judge Jasmine Ara issued the summons after Narayanganj superintendent of police submitted their full addresses, the court's clerk Abdullah Al Mamun told bdnews24.com.

He said the two were summoned for assault, libel and indecent act. They can appear before the court to seek bail anytime by May 14.

Bhakta is the headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School.

A video of the May 13 2016 incident showed MP Salim making Bhakta squat up and down holding his ears for alleged blasphemy.

The Jatiya Party lawmaker faced intense public criticism and outrage after the video went viral on the social media.

It prompted thousands in Bangladesh to stage a unique protest by posting photos of themselves holding their ears and saying ‘Sorry Sir’.

Protests erupted across Bangladesh demanding the trial of Salim and his accomplices.

The High Court issued a suo moto order over the incident asking local authorities to investigate the matter, following which police filed a report describing the MP as 'innocent'.

The court then ordered a judicial investigation, rejecting ‘carelessly made’ reports by police and administration.

The High Court ordered to hold the hearings of the case in the court in Dhaka after receiving the findings of the judicial inquiry in January this year.
