Its foreign ministry, in a note verbale, informed this to the Bangladesh High Commission on Tuesday and requested to share the message with concerned authorities in Dhaka.

They did not cite any reason. bdnews24.com has obtained a copy of the diplomatic note.

Pakistan has avoided sending delegations to international conferences in Dhaka following the war crimes trials, in which local collaborators of Pakistan army responsible for the 1971 genocide face trial.

Its parliament has also adopted resolutions against the verdict of the tribunals.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan presents its compliments to the High Commission for the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Islamabad and has the honour to inform that the Speaker, National Assembly of Pakistan and his delegation will not be able to participate in 136th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 1-5 April 2017,” reads the note verbale.

“The esteemed High Commission is requested to share the above with the concerned authorities of Bangladesh”.

Established in 1889, the IPU is the focal point for worldwide parliamentary dialogue.

Bangladesh’s lawmaker Saber Hossain Chowdhury is the current president of this international organisation of parliaments.
