His comment came on Tuesday, a day after the BNP praised Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda for the very first time after his selection and called him a 'nobleman'.
Prime Minister’s Political Advisor Imam made the comment after holding a meeting with the CEC on Tuesday.
After a similar meeting with CEC on Monday ahead of Comilla City Corporation election, BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi called Huda “a noble man”.
Rizvi, BNP’s senior joint general secretary, headed a delegate which held the meeting.
BNP had been slamming Huda for “being obedient to the government” and questioning his neutrality since he became the CEC a month ago.
While talking to reporters after the meeting, Rizvi said Huda would consider all of BNP’s concerns.
HT Imam, who heads Awami League’s election management committee, said the Election Commission was so desperate to prove its neutrality over the Comilla polls, that it has started treating the ruling party with utmost cruelty.
He, however, added that the government would provide all necessary aids to the Commission for holding a credible election in Comilla.
Imam said: “We are sceptical about 15 to 16 presiding officers in Comilla. We have told EC to look into the matter and take necessary actions.”
The BNP leaders on Monday said the Comilla city polls were a test for the CEC to win people’s faith.
On the contrary, Imam said on Tuesday: “We do not consider Comilla city polls as an acid test for EC. But, it’s a difficult test for them.”
He rubbished BNP’s claim that Awami League activists were breaching the electoral code of conduct in Comilla.
“There are three to four BNP leaders who sound like a broken record. We do not pay heed to such words.”
Moshiur Rahman, Rashedul Hoque, Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap and Riazul Kabir Kawsar accompanied Imam at the meeting.
