13 dead in Chuadanga road accident

A truck rammed into a passenger-carrying four-wheeler, locally known as 'Bhotbhoti', killing 12 passengers in Chuadanga.

The death toll in the Chuadanga road accident has risen to 13. Nine other victims are currently undergoing treatment at local hospitals.

Chuadanga's Assistant Superintendent of Police Tariqul Islam said the accident occurred around 6:45 am on Sunday at the Jairampur Battala area of Damurhuda Upazila.

He said those killed were from Damurhuda. Though their identity could not be immediately ascertained, police said they were believed to be wage labourers.

Twenty-two wage labourers were going from Darshana to  to Alamdanga Upazila by Bhotboti to work on road construction, the assistant police superintendent told bdnews24.com.

“A speeding truck travelling in the opposite direction crashed into the Bhotboti and killed eight on the spot.”

Two more died after locals took the victims to a nearby hospital. Three others died while they were being transferred from the local hospitals to Rajshahi Medical College.
