Govt splits health ministry into two divisions

The government has restructured the health ministry by bifurcating it into two division namely 'health services', and 'health education and family welfare'.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered the bifurcation of the ministry in line with the Rules of Business, the Cabinet Division has said.

In a circular issued on Mar 16, the Cabinet Division also said the operations of the ministry were rearranged under the two new divisions by amending the Allocations of Business of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The government will now appoint separate secretaries for the two new divisions. Md Sirazul Islam is currently the health and family welfare secretary.

The employees of the ministry will also be re-posted in the two new divisions.

On Jan 19, the home ministry was split into ‘public security’ and ‘security services’ divisions. 

The education ministry was also bifurcated into Secondary and Higher Education Division and Technical and Madrasah Education Division on Nov 30 last year.
