The government distributed over 360 million textbooks and study materials to more than 40 millions students this year.

The books containing numerous errors have triggered widespread criticism on the social media.

The books also lack works of certain renowned poets and writers, which many view stemmed from mindset conditioned by religious bigotry.

Dhaka University Professor Anwar Hossain and educationist Momtaj Latif filed the petition, on which a High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman issued the rule on Monday.

Education secretary, National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) chairman and chairmen of the four education boards have been asked to respond within four weeks.

Barrister Rokon Uddin Mahmud, Syed Mamun Mahbub and Barrister Mustafizur Rahman Khan argued for the petitioners.
