A Dhaka court has extended the deadline, for the fifth time, for police to file its report on last year's raid when nine suspected militants were gunned down.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Mahmud Chowdhury has fixed Apr 11 as the new date after the counterterrorism unit pleaded on Wednesday.

On Jul 26, 2016, police raided what it called a militants hideout at building in Kalyanpur.

One ‘Hassan’ was detained with bullet wounds while another managed to flee.

All of them belonged to banned outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh, police claimed.

On Jul 27, 2016, Mirpur Model Police Station’s Inspector Md Shahjahan Alam started the case under rule 6 (2), 8, 9, 10, 12, and 13 of the Anti-Terrorism Act against 10.

One Rakibul Hassan Regan alias Shamim is currently in prison over the case.

Police have failed to submit the probe report on Sep 19, Oct 31, and Dec 4 last year and on Jan 19 this year.

Police have, however, pressed charges against six, including the building's owner Haji Mohammad Atahar Uddin in a separate case for not providing tenants' details with the local police station.

Mirpur police’s Sub-Inspector Bojlar Rahman started the case on Aug 1.

Landlord Atahar is yet to be arrested.
