bdnews24.com Staff Correspondent Masum Billah came under attack on Wednesday afternoon when the situation was about to become normal after workers' leader, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, urged the transport owners and workers to resume services.

His motorcycle was also vandalised in the attack.

On Tuesday, the workers protesting against the conviction of two drivers for road traffic accidents vandalised several vehicles, including one of a TV station.

They also torched a police wrecker and set fire to a temporary police box in the night.

Masum was in the area on Wednesday to cover the clashes between police and the transport workers that started the night before and resumed in the morning after a break of several hours.

"I went to Gabtoli Bus Terminal on my motorcycle to know the latest situation after the shipping minister urged the workers to resume work," Masum said.

"A group of workers were still agitating there on the street in front of the terminal. They rushed to me and asked to turn back my motorcycle. Some of them swooped on me.”

"They kicked my motorcycle and used abusive language. They broke the backlight of my motorbike with a brick," he said.

When he was turning his motorcycle back, one of the workers hit him in the face with a log, injuring his face. Masum had to take medical attention.

Three policemen and a passerby were injured in the clashes. One of the wounded policemen said they were injured in a bomb attack.

The workers kept on vandalising vehicles in Gabtoli on Wednesday morning. An army officer's car came under attack in the morning.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said legal action would be taken against those involved in the vandalism and arson attacks in Gabtoli.

The High Court issued a rule on Wednesday asking why those behind strike against court verdicts would not be punished.
