The victim has been identified as Iti Chakma, 17, the youngest daughter of Antarendriyo Chakma who hails from Chontila in the Dighinala Upazila.

A twelfth standard student at the Khagrachorhi Government College, Iti lived with her sister’s family in Shantinagar’s Arambag.

Police recovered Iti’s body from the house at 10pm on Monday, said Khagracharhi Sadar Police Station OC Tarek Mohammad Abdul Hannan.

“An initial investigation suggests her throat was slit with a sharp weapon,” he said. “The chopper used in the murder was also recovered. However, the victim’s mobile phone has not been found.”

Iti’s sister had taken a job as a school teacher in the area and they had lived in the area for about six months, said the victim’s brother-in-law Otol Chakma.

Otol said he had left the house on Monday evening and had returned home around 9pm to find Iti’s body.

“The door was open when I returned. Inside I found Iti’s bloodied body lying on the bed.”

District Superintendent of Police Md Majid Ali and Additional Superintendent of Police Salauddin investigated the scene that very night, said OC Tarek.

The body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
