Md Dana Mia, Asadul alias Asa and Sazu Mia have been in prisons in Sylhet, Satkhira and Narsingdi from 2006 pending trials for criminal conducts.

The bench of justices AKM Abdul Hakim and SM Mozibur Rahman on Monday granted them bail until the trials complete.

It has also ordered the trial courts to finish the legal proceedings within three months.

On Feb 14, the Supreme Court's Legal Aid Committee's panel lawyer Chanchal Kumar Biswas brought the court's attention on eight prisoners pending trial for years.

The court heard the matter the next day and issued a rule asking why they will not be granted bail.

It also ordered the eight prisoners to be produced before it on Feb 27.

Jail authorities produced seven of them on Sunday, when Biswas argued for them in the court.

"Out of the eight prisoners, all of them except Takdir Mia have been produced and the court granted bail to three. Takdir has secured bail on Jan 19," he told the media.

Prisoner Saiful Alam has been convicted on Feb 14. The court did not issue any order over Takdir and Saiful, said counsel Biswas.

"The documents of another prisoner Sabbir Ahmed did not reach the court and two others Md Jalal and Asim Halder are suffering from mental disorder," he added.

The court has set Mar 6 for the next hearing and told the Legal Aid Office to keep in touch with guardians of prisoners Jalal and Halder.
