Sylhet's Khadiza finally returns home

After going through surgeries, physiotherapy and counselling for more than four months, Khadiza Begum Nargis has returned to her home in Sylhet.

Khadiza, the survivor of a brutal attack by a ruling Awami League's student leader, left Dhaka with family members on Friday morning, said Sayeed Uddin Helal, her doctor at the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed (CRP).  

Her appeared to be in a pleasant mood after her flight landed at Sylhet's MAG Osmani International Airport at 1:30pm Friday.

"I've very well now. The people of the country have prayed for me. I am happy that I was able to return home in good health. I hope I'll receive the same support from everyone in the coming days." 

She told reporters she wanted her attacker to face justice. She then left for her village Ausha.

Badrul Alam, former Chhatra League vice-president at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology hacked Khadiza with a sharp weapon outside Sylhet MC College on Oct 3 last year.

The blows ruptured her skull, causing injury to her brain.   

She was admitted to Dhaka's Square Hospital where she went through a number of surgeries before being n transferred to CRP at Savar.

Khadiza received physiotherapy and counseling from an eight-member team at CRP for three months.

Clinical Physiotherapist Shulokkhona Shyma Biswas of Neurology Department at CRP said Khadiza can move on her own now.

Badrul, who confessed to attacking her under Section 164 in court, is currently behind the bars in the case filed for attempted murder.

Police have the video footage which had gone viral following the incident.

Khadiza is scheduled to testify in court on Feb 26. On Feb 1, she came to Sylhet and stayed for a few days.
