Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Md. Nazmul Quaunine also briefed the ten MPs of British Parliament at the House of Commons on Wednesday, the High Commission said in a statement.

Chair of All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Bangladesh of the UK Parliament Anne Main, Mark Field, Paul Scully, Rupa Huq, Rushanara Ali, Simon Danczuk, Bob Blackman, David Mackintosh, Flick Drummond, and Matthew Offord were, among others, present at the luncheon meeting.

This was an event organised for familiarisation with the British Members of Parliament having an interest in Bangladesh affairs.

The MPs lauded the role of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in efficiently countering the terrorism and radicalisation in the post-July 1 attack.

During the meeting, they wanted to know about the contemporary security situation, Rohingya issues, new election commission and development activities in Bangladesh.

The High Commissioner thanked the British MPs for joining the briefing and gave them an overview of the history of Bangladesh and its political background and recent developments.

He pinpointed the autocratic rule and culture of impunity that prevailed in Bangladesh before the present government came to power.

He highlighted the significant measures taken by the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in strengthening democracy, the rule of law and steering the country towards development path.

Dipu Moni briefed them on Rohingya issue, recent developmental matters and political situations.
