The deceased were identified as 'Moktar' alias 'Killer Moktar' and his accomplice 'Manik '.

Sub-Inspector Abdul Aziz received bullet injury and was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, police said.

OC Kamal said police conducted a drive in Pagla's Shahibazar on a tip-off about Moktar's whereabouts.

Moktar and Manik opened fire at police at the time and SI Aziz got shot in the leg, he said.

The duo died when police fired back, he claimed.

He also said a pistol, a revolver, and seven rounds of bullet were found at the scene.

Moktar had at least five cases against him over murders and robberies while Manik had three, he added.
