Man detained with gold bars at Dhaka airport

Customs officials at the Dhaka airport have seized 12 gold bars from a man, which he had hidden in his anal passage.

Rasel Khan, 32, flew in from Chittagong on Monday morning on a Biman Bangladesh flight which came to Dhaka from Dubai via the port city.

Customs Intelligence chief Moinul Khan said that the metal detector indicated that he had concealed some kind of metal in his body.

"At the beginning, he denied, but confessed when officers said that he would have to go through a surgery. Six packets containing 12 gold bars were hidden in his anal passage."

During initial interrogation, Rasel confessed to carrying contraband gold from Chittagong to Dhaka, said Khan.

"A passenger from Dubai had hidden the gold bars in seat 11B, which Rasel collected after boarding the plane from Chittagong and concealed in his body."

The seized gold bars weight 1.39 kg and its estimated street value stands at Tk 6.5 million, said senior customs official.
