On Saturday, four crews of the 'MT Anchor S' sustained burn injuries in a fire that started after an explosion in its engine room.

The tanker, carrying 950,000 litres of diesel and petrol, was heading to an oil depot in Barisal from Chittagong through the Kirtankhola River.

The Barisal fire service rescued four crews from the vessel and rushed them to the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal.

Three of them were transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) the same day.

DMCH burns unit's Resident Doctor Partha Shankar Paul said two of them suffered 80 percent burns while the other 50 percent.

"Their condition is critical," he told bdnews24.com.
