Jhalakathi police have arrested four others over the incident at Rajapur Upazila.

Police said Rajapur Upazila Chhatra League president Ahsan Habib Rubel and his associates tried to take over the house of one Faruq Sikder near the Sadar Degree College on Sunday.

Faruq and his men were absconding in a case filed by his local rivals over a land dispute after Faruk had started constructing the house, said Rajapur police Inspector (investigation) Harun-Ur-Rashid.

"Primary investigation indicates that Rubel tried to take over the house in the absence of Faruq and other male members of the family."

The injured are Faruq's wife, Sahera Begum, 46, Sharmin Akter, 30, 'Kobita', 27, 'Taslima', 30, Syed Mannan, 60, 'Saleha', 60, and Ambia Begum, 60.

They have been admitted to Rajapur Health Complex.

Cuts and bruises have been found on their bodies, said Dr Abul Khayer Mahmud Russel who assumed that they were hit with an iron rod or pipe.

Inspector Harun said Rudel and his men barged into the house of Faruq around 4 am and started beating the family members and vandalised the house.

Police reached the spot and arrested Rubel, his mother Chhahera Begum, 45, Abu Chaleh, 28, Nazrul Islam, 28, and Sharmin Akter, 30.

Police have been deployed at the spot, said Inspector Harun adding that process was on to file a case.
