Court hands death to man for murder in Manikganj

A Manikganj court has sentenced a man to death in the 2008 murder of a 45-year-old over a land dispute.

The court of District and Sessions Judge Al-Mahmud Fayzul Kabir announced the verdict on Sunday with the convict Nurul Islam, 35, on the docks.

On Oct 3, 2008, farmer Aynal Hossain was beaten with an iron rod before being hacked with sharp a weapon at a village near the district town.

The victim's father started a murder case with the local police accusing Islam, his father Hazrat Ali, neighbour Akkas Ali, Shamsuddin and Bimala Khatun, said Prosecutor Mothurnath Sarker.

Police pressed charges on the five and the trial began after the court indicted them.

Akkas Ali died during the trial while the rest have been acquitted of the charges.
