The strike was called in protest against police action against transport workers demonstrating for the release of two fellow workers, according to Sylhet Microbus Samity.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Golam Kibria said the leaders agreed to call off the strike after a meeting with police around 2:30pm.

President of the platform Shah Ripon Ahmad said they were given assurance of a fair probe.

DB held two transport workers with drugs on Friday night, said Ripon.

The same night, police attacked a peaceful demonstration of transport workers and vandalised a pickup truck, he told bdnews24.com.

Sylhet District Road Transport Union leaders echoed with him.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police's Additional Commissioner Rokon Uddin however, denied the claim.

He said, police detained to truck workers - Toron Mia and Shahin Ahmad - in possession of drugs from the city's Mohajanpatti on Friday evening.

"Hearing the news, truck workers reached the DB office. Police removed them from the neighbourhood but did not attack them or vandalise any vehicle."
