Sisters allege SI Akram's wife and ex-SP Babul 'masterminded' their brother's death

The sisters of police Sub-Inspector Akram Hossain Liton, 'killed in a road traffic accident', have alleged that their brother was murdered, and former superintendent of police Babul Aktar was the mastermind.

An 'extramarital affair' between Akram's wife and ex-SP Babul was the cause behind the murder, they said.

Akram's five sisters made the allegation at a press conference in Jhenaidah Press Club on Friday.

It came 10 days after Akram's wife Banani Binte Bashir Borni dismissed the allegation made in the media reports over the 'affair' as rumours.

Akram's sister Jannat Ara Parveen Rini said the 'affair' between Babul and Borni developed when they were in Khulna during their fathers' posting there.

Babul's father was also a police officer while Borni's father worked at Bangladesh Rural Development Board.

Borni married Akram in 2005 while Babul wedded Mahmuda Aktar Mitu, who was murdered in Chittagong on Jun 5 last year. Babul, a decorated officer, had to leave his job during the investigation.

Rini alleged Borni had a connection with Babul even after marriage when Akram was abroad in a UN peacekeeping mission.

She said Babul and Borni planned the murder on Dec 28, 2014.

"That's why Borni suggested Akram to take the Jamuna Bridge to come to Jhenaidah. Miscreants hit him with sharp weapons on the head. Later, he was found unconscious in Jhenaidah's Shailakupa," said Akram's sister.

"Later when Akram was getting better at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Borni poisoned his soup, and he died on Jan 13, 2015," she added.

Rini also claimed the post-mortem examination found sharp weapon wound on Akram's head.

"But police did not register it as a murder case," she said.

Akram's sisters Rehana Alam Gini, Ferdous Ara Chini, Shanaz Parveen Ripa, and Shamima Nasrin Mukti were also present at the conference call.

They demanded an investigation into their brother's 'murder' and trial of the 'culprits' behind it.

When several media, quoting Akram's sisters, published the reports on the allegation against Babul and Borni of 'murdering' Akram in a fallout of their 'extramarital affair', Borni organised a press conference in Bhola on Feb 7.

She said there was no truth in the reports about her relationship with Babul.

Although Borni vehemently maintained that they had no family ties with Babul during the press conference, she conceded to making that claim mistakenly when bdnews24.com approached her with pictures of Babul and her father together at a Magura event.

Mitu's father Mosharraf Hossain told bdnews24.com recently that there might be a relation between the murder of his daughter and the death of Akram. He also demanded investigations in that angle.
