Bangladesh PM Hasina joins Munich Security Conference, to meet Merkel

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has joined the 53rd round of Munich Security Conference, a major global forum for the discussion of security policies.

Conference Chairman Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger inaugurated it at Hotel Bayerischer Hof on Friday afternoon (local time).

Besides Hasina, heads of state and government of a number of countries are among the around 450 participants of the conference.

The prime minister reached Munich earlier in the day. Bangladesh Ambassador in Germany Imtiaz Ahmed wlecomed her at the Munich airport.

Leaders and activists of the Awami League units in Germany and other European countries greeted Hasina with flowers at Hotel Marriott.

She was scheduled to take part at a dinner with the head of other participating countries and the mayor of Munich.

During her two-day visit, the prime minister is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, who is also travelling with the prime minister, said the two leaders would discuss improving trade and investment, mitigating risks of climate change, refugee and migration crisis in Europe, global conditions of terrorism and violence.
