Members of new Election Commission take oath of office

The members of the new Election Commission have taken their oaths of office.

The five-strong commission led by former public servant KM Nurul Huda will hold all the national and local government elections for the next five years. It will organise the 11th Parliamentary elections slated for early 2019.

Huda has on his team former additional secretary Mahbub Talukder, former secretary Rafiqul Islam, former district judge Kabita Khanam and former brigadier general Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury as election commissioners.

Chief Election Commissioner Huda and the four election commissioners were administered the oath of office by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha at the Supreme Court judges' lounge on Wednesday afternoon.

Huda and his deputies arrived at the venue by 2:50pm while Chief Justice Sinha entered at 3pm.

Supreme Court's Registrar General Syed Aminul Islam moderated the oath-taking ceremony.
