Chhatra League activist shot, injured in MP Gazi's office

A local activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has been shot at in Narayanganj MP Gazi Golam Dastagir's commercial office in the capital's Paltan.

Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, 21, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after being hit by the bullet in his belly on Monday evening.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Anwar Hossain told bdnews24.com that Mosharraf was shot in the room of the MP's aide Kamruzzaman by another youth at one stage of an altercation following a longstanding dispute.

"We have identified the youth who shot Mosharraf. We are trying to arrest him," he said.

Gazi Golam Dastagir, a ruling Awami League MP from Narayanganj's Rupganj, owns Gazi Tanks and Gazi TV channel. His wife is a municipality mayor in Rupganj.

A person, identifying himself as Narayanganj Juba League leader Al Amin Bhuiyan, told bdnews24.com at the DMCH that Mosharraf is a Chhatra League activist and he was shot at.

Police have detained several persons, reportedly including an aide to Golam Dastagir, over the incident.

Paltan Police Station OC Rafiqul Islam told bdnews24.com: "We don't now yet who is the PS or APS. We have brought four to five persons to the station for questioning."

He said it was not a gunfight and only one shot was fired.

DMCH Police Camp Sub-Inspector Md Bachchu Mia told bdnews24.com that Mosharraf was brought to the hospital just after 6pm with bullet wound in his belly.

"Those, who have brought him, are busy admitting him to the hospital. They are not willing to talk now," he said.
