Railways Minister Md Mazibul Hoque flagged off the train on Monday at the Dhaka Cantonment Railway Station.

The Dhaka-Dinajpur train, which has been operating for the last four years, now has 12 coaches capable of carrying 852 passengers.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Hoque said that Bangladesh has significantly progressed during the Awami League's rule and so has the railways. "When the BNP was in power, the railways were on the brink of closure."

He highlighted that 270 coaches have been added on different routes since he took office.  "We have 44 ongoing projects. We have installed new engines, added coaches and built new tracks."

Passengers beamed as they found the renovated train adorned with flowers on the platform.

"We are happy to see the train with new coaches," said Mahir Jashim, who was travelling to Dinajpur with his family.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor said people of the north are grateful to the prime minister and the railways minister for the initiative.

Modern communication facilities are crucial to any form of development, he said.

Nilphamari MP Aftab Uddin Sarker and Thakurgaon MP Md Yasin Ali were present at the ceremony.
