The deceased have been identified as 30-year-old Jayanti Rani and her son, 2-year old Narayan.

Jayanti was the wife of Shitendranath, 40, from Putimarhi village in Panchagarh’s Boda Upazila.

Shitendranath worked at the Rural Poverty Alleviation Project in Tetulia and was travelling from a relative’s house to Tetulia on Monday night, said SI Shaju.

Police are investigating the cause of the death, he said.

According to Pancharh Sadar Hospital Doctor Rezaul Karim, the child was found injured and had blood, but not his mother.

“We found the unconscious Shitendranath, the dead bodies of Jayanti and their son Narayan and the motorcycle lying on the road. None of the locals could tell us what happened.”

Bipenchandra said he had personally known the family .
