In September 2015, Latif resigned from Parliament after he lost his Cabinet berth and the party's membership following his anti-Hajj remarks.

"There are no more legal hurdles for holding the polls," EC Deputy Secretary Farhad Ahmmad Khan told bdnews24.com.

The EC had scheduled Oct 28, 2015 to hold the election, but it was stayed after Latif's brother Kader Siddique moved the court over his nomination.

On Jan 18 this year, the Supreme Court rejected Kader's appeal challenging the High Court verdict, which scrapped his nomination for the by-polls.

Deputy Secretary Khan said there are three candidates in the by-polls.
