The accidents occurred on Sunday morning in Kaliakair’s Baroiparha area on the Gazipur-Nabinagar road, said Salna Highway Police Station OC Md Hossain Sarkar.

One of those killed was 40-year old Jahangir Hossain, who worked as a security officer at the Ashulia Rural Electrification Office.

Police say the other victim was around 35, but has not yet been identified.

A pickup van struck a stationary bus from behind, injuring a passenger who fell from the roof of the bus, said OC Hossain Sarkar.

Jahangir saw the incident and tried to stop a passing bus to take the victim to the hospital, said OC Sarkar.

“But, instead of stopping, the bus ran them over. Both were killed on the spot and the bus sped away.”

The bodies have been sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy and police have impounded the bus belonging to Orchid Elegance company and the pickup van, said the OC.
