A letter from the central committee announced their suspension on Sunday.

Eyewitnesses said that on Saturday night Raju's followers mounted simultaneous attacks on five hostels.

Firing took place on the campus at the time and motorcycles were set ablaze, say reports.

They beat up joint convenor Sheikh Russel, who was sleeping in one of the hostels, leaving him injured as a result of being assaulted with sharp weapons.

The clashes erupted over a turf war between the factions.

A police operation in the hostels that night led to the recovery of a large cache of machetes and clubs.

Thirty-two suspects were also arrested in this connection.

A BCL leader on condition of anonymity told bdnews24.com that the Dhaka College Committee of the BCL was formed a few days ago with Raju as a convenor and 35 others as joint convenors.

"With five hostels placed under six joint convenors, Raju felt cornered", the leader said.

Hiron Bhuiyan was one of those joint convenors.
