Brahmanbarhia Jail's Superintendent Md Nurunnabi said that he was released around 12:30pm on Tuesday after his bail documents reached the prison.

On Monday, the court of the district and sessions judge granted bail to Rasraj until the police files the investigation report.

On Oct 29, police arrested Rasraj for a picture posted on his Facebook profile 'insulting Islam.'

The next day, at least 15 Hindu temples and over a hundred Hindu houses in Nasirnagar Upazila were attacked, looted and vandalised.

Two police cases have been started over the incident, each of them accusing 1,000 to 1,200 unidentified persons.

On Nov 3, police produced Rasraj before the court and secured five days to question him in custody.

After the remand, the court turned down Rasraj's bail petition on Nov 8. He has been in prison since then.

A bdnews24.com investigation revealed a turf war between local Awami League leaders led to the attacks and that Nasirnagar Upazila’s Haripur Union Parishad Chairman Atiqur Rahman Ankhi orchestrated it.

On Jan 5, police arrested Ankhi from Dhaka.

Police had previously arrested Ankhi’s aide Uttam Kumar Das and Haripur Union Parishad's Secretary Monorajan Debnath for their suspected involvement.

Ankhi allegedly arranged and paid for the 14 to 15 truckloads of people, who attacked the Hindu houses and temples.

Police have already detained more than 100 persons over the incident.

Amid widespread criticism across the country over the attack, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) launched a probe.

Investigators found that the photo was not uploaded from Rasraj's mobile phone. It was edited in a cyber cafe owned by one Jahangir Alam.

Alam was arrested on Nov 28 and confessed to circulating leaflets containing the photo before a magistrate.

Jahangir gave police the name of a Hindu man, Ashutosh Das, who had Rasraj's Facebook password.

Das surrendered to police on Jan 10 and confessed before the court of Brahmanbarhia's additional chief judicial magistrate the next day.
