Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal inaugurated the Online Police Clearance service at a programme in Police Telecom Auditorium at Razarbagh Police Lines on Sunday.

He hoped the service will ease sufferings of the citizens and reduce their alleged harassments at police stations and government offices as well as save money and time.

The service has been launched jointly by Bangladesh Police and Access to Information (a2i) programme under the Prime Minister's Office.

Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque and Access to Information Project Director Kabir Bin Anwar, among others, were present at the function.

According to a press release sent from the Police Headquarters, the service is available at pcc.police.gov.bd. The page can also be accessed from the menu of www.police.gov.bd.

The release said the service was experimentally launched in Comilla on Nov 20 last year and in Sylhet on Jan 1 this year.

The fully fledged programme has now been launched after successful trial runs, it added.

More than 14,000 people applied for police clearance online in Comilla and Sylhet. Police said 5,500 of them have received clearance certificates.

All an applicant needs to do is upload necessary documents and a scanned copy of the receipt of government fees with the application.

Officials said the certificate has QR (Quick Response) code printed on it.

The certificate can be seen in any internet browser by accessing the link received by scanning the original certificate by a smartphone, they said.

This will allow the foreign missions to check the certificate online.
