Police recovered the body of 45-year-old Chittaranjan Bain from his Sher-e-Bangla Road residence in the city Sunday afternoon.

Chittaranjan taught English at a college in Batiaghata Upazila.

Khulna Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector Taposh Pal said the victim was found lying on his bed with injury marks on head and legs.

"It’s a clear case of robbery. His hands, legs and mouth were tied up," Taposh added.

He was home alone when assailants stormed his house and killed him, said Bapi Gain, the victim’s nephew.

“On Saturday night, assailants might have entered the house cutting grills of a window, killed him and looted valuables from the house. They took away cash money and jewellery,” he said.

Chittaranjan’s wife Lucky Goldar and two daughters were out of home when the robbery and murder took place. They had left for Jhorbhanga Village, Lucky’s paternal home, a week ago, he said.

Lucky had called her husband on in his mobile phone several times around 11pm on Saturday but he did not receive any call. So, she informed the matter to her father-in-law Ratan Goldar, said Bapi.

Ratan went to his son’s place and called him from outside. Hearing no response, one entered the house through the window and found the body lying on the bed.

The assailants might have hit hard his head and legs with heavy metals, SI Taposh said.

Samples were collected from the crime scene for forensic tests, he added.
