Metropolitan Magistrate Mazharul Islam also rejected another petition of police seeking his custody for grilling on Wednesday, but said the investigating officer can quiz him at jail gates within three days if he wants.

Kalabagan Police Station SI Farooq Khan moved the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court for a three-day remand of Kalyan earlier in the day.

Farooq Mia, the lawyer for Kalyan, said at the hearing of the bail petition that Kalyan's car was hit by a truck at Farmgate and one of his friends was injured. The actor went to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for his injured friend's treatment, the lawyer said.

He argued that all the charges brought against him were bailable.

Ashraf-ul-Alam, the counsel for the plaintiff, referred to previous cases of hit-and-run during the hearing of the remand petition.

Proshanto Karmakar, another lawyer on his side, said Kalyan could not refer to any friend who he had taken to the hospital and that is why he needed to be questioned in custody.

Zia Islam was hit by a car on Monday midnight in front of Bashundhara City shopping mall. He was first admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital and shifted to Apollo Hospital on Tuesday.

A status posted by Kalyan on Facebook saying ‘I am innocent’ caught the attention of many. Police then called the actor to the station for questioning.

Prothom Alo Manager (Security) Retd Major Sajjad Ul Kabir initiated a case on behalf of his organisation with the Kalabagan police.

The actor was arrested immediately afterwards, DMP Deputy Commissioner Maruf Hossain Sardar said.

According to the FIR, it has been said, "After hitting Zia, the car stopped there for sometime with its lights switched off. Then it went away.

“After Zia was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Kalyan visited the hospital around 1:30am.

“He told some journalists present there that his car hit Zia.

"Then he disappeared," the FIR says.

"Kalyan has been arrested based on allegations labelled against him in the FIR," Maruf Sardar told bdnews24.com.

Zia has broken his right leg and has major injuries in the head and chest.

Apollo Hospitals has reported that Zia is currently under observation for 48 hours after undergoing brain surgery.
