Bangladesh doubles pay for local government representatives 

The government has raised salaries for representatives in city corporations, municipalities and councils for districts, Upazilas and unions.

The representatives from five levels under the Local Government Division will receive their new salaries in retrograde from Jul 1 last year. 

City mayors will get Tk 85,000 instead of Tk 44,500 and councillors will be given Tk 35,000 instead of Tk 17,500. 

District council chairpersons are to get Tk 54,000 as monthly salary and Tk 5,000 as entertainment allowance. The members will be paid Tk 35,000 monthly. District council chairpersons would previously get Tk 40,000. 

'Ka'-level municipality mayors would get Tk 38,000 and their councillors Tk 8,000; 'Kha'-level municipality mayors would get Tk 28,000 and councillors Tk 7,000; and 'Ga'-level municipality mayors will get Tk 24,000 and councillors Tk 6,000. 

Their previous monthly salaries were Tk 20,000, Tk 15,000 and Tk 12,000 respectively.
Upazila Parishad chairpersons will get Tk 40,000 instead of Tk 20,500; vice chairpersons will get Tk 27,000 per month, in place of Tk 14,600. 

Union Parishad (UP) chairpersons will now get Tk 8,000 monthly (government Tk 3,600, UP Tk 4,400). Members of the council will now get Tk 5,000 (govt 2,375 and UP 2,625).
