85 Bangladeshis held for illegal border crossing

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has nabbed 85 Bangladeshis for crossing the border into India illegally.

Acting on a tip off, BGB patrols conducted raids on Tuesday morning and nabbed 55 persons at Benapole and 30 at Doulatpur border, said Khulna-based BGB 21 Battalion’s Putkhali company chief Subedar Abdul Jalil.

They were caught while returning from neighbouring India. The group had been engaged there in different jobs, he said.

The traffickers, however, could not be caught, he added.

Among those nabbed were 24 women, 36 men and 26 children, hailing from Norhail, Barisal, Khulna, Jessore, Faridpur and Bagerhat, said the BGB official.

All of them had been sent to Benapole port police station and a case had been filed , Benapole police’s OC Opurbo Hasan has said.
