Special District Judge (District and Sessions Court) SM Kuddus Zaman on Monday sent RAJUK Additional Director (former Kanungo) Md Mizanur Rahman, Estate Inspector (former surveyor) Md Jakir Hossain, Sherpur Upazila Land Officer Kanungo (former surveyor) Md Abu Taher and land acquisition official with Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner's office (former Kanungo) Md Moinul Hoque to jail.

They are accused in a Tk 35 million embezzlement case involving faking government-owned trees as private property.

A bail plea moved in their favour was also turned down by the judge after the hearing.

On Aug 29 last year, Additional Director Md Abdus Salam Ali had lodged a complaint with Narayanganj's Fatulla Police Station against 12 others besides the four accused.

In the complaint, he accused them of inflating the estimates of trees in the Purbachal Project of the RAJUK between Nov 4 and Nov 6, 1997.

He has accused them of showing more than the actual number of trees in the project located on daag RS-1564 at Kamta Mouja, which led to the state exchequer losing around Tk 35 million.

Another of their accomplices, Kanungo Halim Biswas was arrested on Dec 12 and has been in jail.

His bail plea was also rejected at the hearing on Monday.
