President Hamid calls for communal harmony on Christmas

Everyone must step forward to boost the spirit of communal harmony, President Abdul Hamid has said on the Christmas Day 2016.

He made the appeal while exchanging greetings with Christians and other distinguished guests at his official residence Bangabhaban on Sunday.

"Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. The people of the country are bound by love and harmony from time immemorial and we all have to play an effective role in further strengthening this tradition of harmony," he said.

Referring to Patrick D Rozario’s appointment as cardinal, he said, “His Excellency, the Pope has appointed a Bangladeshi as a cardinal for the very first time. This achievement will glorify our heritage of communal harmony across the globe.”

Cardinal Patrick D Rozario, ambassadors of different countries exchanged greetings with the president and his wife Rashida Khanam. Religious Affairs Minister Matior Rahman was present on the occasion.

A group of singers performed the Christmas carol. The president then cut a cake at the Darbar Hall.
