13-year-old schoolgirl commits suicide after being raped by librarian in Rajshahi

A 13-year-old schoolgirl has committed suicide after being raped by the librarian of the school in Godagarhi in Rajshahi, police say.

The seventh grader took excessive amount of pesticide and died while undergoing treatment in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital early Saturday, Godagari Police Station OC Hipjur Alam Munshi told bdnews24.com.

She was admitted to the hospital on Friday afternoon after consuming pesticide, Munshi said.

The victim, a student of Digram High School, was staying in her maternal grandparents' house after she suffered the sexual assault from the librarian on Nov 3.

"The body has been sent to the mortuary for post-mortem examination," the OC said.

The girl's mother filed a case.

Shahidul was sent to jail after being shown arrested in that case, he added.

Sub-Inspector Abdul Latif, who is investigating the case, said medical tests revealed that the girl was raped.

Her father said she had been upset after the incident. The family had to send her to her maternal grandparents' house following comments by locals about the incident, he added.
