It released a statement on Wednesday saying some online and print media outlets had published 'confusing reports' that a list was being made of those who browse such sites.

The division said it wants “to let everyone know that there was no such plan or decision to make a list of porn site visitors”.

"It's also technologically impossible to make this. Such speculations have surprised us, because we are committed to do our legal duty of preserving personal data," the statement said.

The telecoms division urged those, who are 'out to spread rumours', to stop doing so.

The telecoms division formed a committee on Nov 28 to block porn websites and publication of offensive contents on the internet.

The committee will make a three-level technical proposal on how to bock such websites and contents within a week by listing those.

The process to block the sites and contents is supposed to start after getting the proposals.

On Monday, State Minister for Telecommunications Tarana Halim told bdnews24.com that the move to clamp down on internet porn will begin through a blocking of sites and contents generated within the country.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, she refuted media reports that quoted her as saying that the porn site visitors will be ‘exposed’.

According to the BTRC, the number of internet users was over 66.8 million in September. More than 63 million of them use internet on mobile phone.
